19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks his first championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court after March of that year.

Success also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had led some to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was concluded.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

He came back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the final five games to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He saved four early break points in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
